Creating a Sub Playlist

Creating a Sub Playlist

Sub-playlists offer a structured way to manage, categorize, and schedule media within a main playlist, ideal for targeted content delivery on signage screens. Here’s an in-depth look at using this feature effectively.

1. Adding a Sub-Playlist

To begin, navigate to the Playlist tab on your signage player interface. Click Add and select Sub-Playlist from the drop-down menu; this is the only option to add a sub-playlist. You can create a new sub-playlist or choose an existing playlist to add to the main playlist, which will function as a single media item within it.

Using a sub-playlist is beneficial for managing larger playlists, as it allows you to group content by themes (e.g., promotions, seasonal content, or informational messages) and schedule each theme as needed.

2. Organizing and Scheduling Content in a Sub-Playlist

Sub-playlists allow you to streamline content management by categorizing media and setting independent schedules for each group. This is especially helpful for content that needs to run at different times of day or week, like breakfast and lunch menus or daily promotions. Any schedule you set within a sub-playlist remains active, which means that items added to the sub-playlist will automatically follow the existing schedule unless updated.

Examples of common sub-playlist use:

  • Product Promotions: Organize advertisements for specific products that appear at different times throughout the day.
  • Menu Boards: Divide breakfast, lunch, and dinner menus within a restaurant setting and schedule them to rotate automatically.
  • Event Timelines: Highlight event schedules, daily activities, or weekly offers and ensure each category runs at the appropriate times.

3. Managing Content in a Sub-Playlist

Managing sub-playlists is simple. You can remove, replace, or update items within a sub-playlist, just as you would with items in the Gallery. Additionally, if you need a similar group of items for another part of your display rotation, you can duplicate the sub-playlist. While duplicating allows for versatility in your display strategy, remember that each sub-playlist can only be added once to the main playlist to prevent repetition.

If you have an existing sub-playlist that fits your new content needs, click Duplicate to save time and avoid recreating similar content structures. This is especially useful for repetitive content across multiple playlists.

4. Syncing Changes to Apply Updates

Once you've organized and scheduled your content, make sure to click Update to apply any changes to your signage screens. Update ensures that all new additions, removals, and schedule changes appear correctly and promptly across all displays using the main playlist.

Regular syncing is recommended, especially after significant updates to content or schedules, as this maintains consistency across all screens in real-time.

Using sub-playlists enhances your content strategy by enabling you to categorize, customize schedules, and manage a range of media content with ease. This method keeps your main playlist organized and allows quick content adjustments, ensuring your signage displays are dynamic, timely, and targeted.
